We chose to manufacture our UK-made shutters from premium Basswood hardwood because we believe natural timber offers a level of quality, character and longevity that’s difficult to replicate. What are UK shutters made from?
Our UK-made shutters specifically are manufactured from premium Basswood hardwood. We chose Basswood for its quality, durability and smooth finish, making it well-suited to creating beautiful, long-lasting wooden shutters.
Where are UK-made shutters manufactured?
Our UK shutters are designed and manufactured at our factory in Kent, just 5 minutes from our head office in Wrotham. The factory is run by our close partner and parent company, New Age Shutters, where their skilled shutter technicians oversee the manufacturing process from start to finish.
Are UK-made shutters more expensive than other shutters?
Just like our other shutters, the price of your UK-made shutters depends on the size and number of windows, style, configuration and finish you choose. As the Allsop Range is made from premium Basswood hardwood and manufactured in our Kent factory, it sits at a premium price point. However, this reflects the quality of the materials, skilled UK craftsmanship and bespoke manufacturing that goes into every shutter, as well as the important benefit of shorter lead times of as little as 4–6 weeks.

Are UK-made wooden shutters suitable for every room?
Our UK-made hardwood shutters are a versatile choice for most rooms, including bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, home offices and commercial spaces. As they are wood, rather than PVC, we do not recommend them for bathrooms or other moisture-prone areas, as this could warp and damage the shutters over time. Our team would recommend another material or option for these windows whilst on site.
How to clean wooden shutters?
Like all our shutters, UK-made wooden shutters are easy to clean and maintain. Regularly dusting the shutter panels with a dry microfibre cloth to remove any dust and dirt, including the louvres and behind the framework will keep all shutters looking good as new. Any fingerprints or marks can be removed with a babywipe only. We always ask our customers to avoid any chemicals, cleaning sprays or even wet cloths as this can damage the finish of the paint and protective coating on the panels and louvres.
