What are
bifold shutters?
Just like traditional plantation shutters, bifold shutters allow for complete control of light and privacy levels through the opening and closing of the louvres or slats.
Bifold shutters feature hinged shutter panels, which allow for the shutters to be folded in a concertina motion for complete unobstructed views out of windows, whilst saving space.
This makes bifold shutters a popular choice of window treatment for homes across the UK, particularly for large windows, conservatories and extensions, and patio doors.

Bifold shutter FAQs
Why choose bifold shutters?
Bi-fold shutters, also known as folding shutters, are a popular type of window treatment used to control light and privacy levels in your home. When closed, they appear similar to traditional plantation shutters, with louvres/shutters that are adjustable to control light.
Bifold shutters are ideal when you want unobstructed access or a view out of a window or door. The concertina folding of bi-fold doors means you can neatly fold your shutters to the side when not needed.
They are ideal for spaces where space is limited or where regular plantation shutters would be too obtrusive to use. For instance, bi-fold shutters are ideal for patio doors in extensions, helping to control lighting and privacy in the evening, but can fold away when the doors are in use during the day.
How do bifold shutters work?
Bi-fold shutters or folding shutters are constructed with individual shutter panels that are connected with hinges. These hinges allow for the panels to be neatly folded in a concertina motion, taking up little room when folded.
At The Shutter Studio, we can customise your bifold shutters to your exact preference and requirements, tailoring panel size, louvre styles, and finishes to ensure your shutters complement your space.
Where can bifold shutters be installed?
Interior bifold shutters can be installed in any location as regular window shutters or door shutters. As bifold shutters fold away neatly to offer unobstructed access, they work effectively for use around doors (particularly patio doors and French doors).
Bifold shutters can be installed elsewhere, however. For instance, bifold shutters can be effective when installed in living room windows, bedroom windows, and kitchen windows, or any window where full access is desired.
Can I have bifolding shutters in other shutter styles?
Of course! At The Shutter Studio, as all of our shutters are made to order, we can create custom shutters tailored to your home.
For instance, we can combine our bifolding designs with tier-on-tier style shutters, as well as solid panel shutters, and full-length door shutters. Our bifolding styles are especially effective for shaped bay windows.
