Creating a home that feels personal doesn’t always happen all at once. For these homeowners in Kent, renovating their property has been an ongoing project over a few years, gradually transforming different rooms to reflect their own style.
We first visited the home a couple of years ago to install made-to-measure plantation shutters across a number of rooms. More recently, we returned to fit shutters in the upstairs rooms, bringing finishing touches to the last few rooms.
The installation features UK-made Basswood shutters in a classic Super White finish. With their timeless appearance and practical design, they provide a consistent look throughout the home whilst complementing the character of each room.
UK-Made wooden shutters: A timeless finish
Throughout the home, the shutters provide a consistent, timeless finish that works beautifully alongside the homeowners’ decor.
In the bedroom, soft blush tones, delicate patterned bedding and a curved upholstered headboard create a warm and inviting space. The Super White shutters complement these softer details, framing the window neatly whilst allowing the furnishings and decorative touches to take still take centre stage.
In the living room, the darker textured walls, deep buttoned chaise and brass accents create a rich, sophisticated feel. The white shutters bring a fresh contrast to the deeper tones, allowing natural light to filter through and keeping a cohesive look through the rooms.
In both spaces, the shutters sit naturally within the overall design, enhancing the windows without overwhelming the décor. They are a versatile choice, allowing each room’s individual details to shine.
Choosing the shutter materials
For this project, the homeowners chose full-height UK-Made Basswood shutters, offering a design that works beautifully throughout the property.
Basswood is a lightweight hardwood valued for its strength and durability, making it particularly well suited to plantation shutters. Its low weight is especially practical for larger panels, helping to make the shutters easier to operate.
The 64mm louvres were selected with privacy in mind, whilst still giving the homeowners flexibility to adjust the light entering each room. By angling the louvres, they can enjoy natural daylight whilst managing the view into the home.
Centre tilt rods provide a traditional shutter detail, allowing the louvres to be adjusted together. The chosen frames create a neat finish around the windows, whilst the white hinges blend with the Super White paintwork for a coordinated appearance throughout.
It’s these smaller choices that help bring the overall design together, balancing everyday practicality with a finish that feels right for the home.
The benefits of UK-made shutters
Another important feature of this installation is that the shutters were made in the UK at our factory in Kent, close to our head office.
Choosing UK-made shutters means supporting British manufacturing and skilled craftsmanship, whilst benefiting from shorter lead times. Having our factory close by also helps us provide accessible aftercare and repair support when needed.
Every home has its own requirements, from window dimensions and layout to privacy preferences and interior style. Made-to-measure shutters allow these details to be considered from the outset, helping create a bespoke finish that feels part of the home.
Completing the home, one room at a time
Returning to this Kent property to complete the upstairs windows was a lovely way to continue a project that began a few years ago. The homeowners have taken their time making the house their own, and the final shutters help to bring the finishing touches together.
From the soft, inviting bedroom to the contemporary, snug living room, the Basswood shutters complement each space whilst maintaining a consistent look throughout the home.
The best material to choose for your windows depends on how you will use each room, the size of the windows and the style you want to go for. Read more about our shutter materials here or drop us an email to book a consultation and discuss your requirements, we’d be more than happy to help!
