Having spent time working through their home and making each room their own, the owners of this Kent property were approaching the final stages of their project. With the final designs coming together, they were looking for window coverings that would complement each space while providing the practical benefits they needed for everyday living.
We worked closely with the customer to understand how they wanted each room to look and function, helping them choose made-to-measure shutters and fly screens as the finishing touches to their beautiful home.
Full height plantation shutters
The customer chose full-height plantation shutters in Super White, creating a timeless finish that ties in with the interior of the property.
These shutters are made from Paulownia+, a lightweight material that is well suited to large windows and doors. The customer selected 76mm louvres, offering a balanced look while providing flexible control over natural light and privacy.
Following a home consultation with one of our surveyors, the customer chose the finishing details for the shutters: Valley Deco frame, white hinges and the easy tilt operating system, creating a shutter specification which is tailored to their peresonal home styling.

Shutters designed for every room
The shutters were installed throughout the bedrooms, kitchen, office spaces and living room, with each space benefitting from the flexibility of plantation shutters.
In the bedrooms, the shutters provide control over natural light and privacy while creating a calm, finished feel. In the office space, the louvres can be adjusted to control the amount of sunlight entering the room – helping to reduce glare on screens when working.
The shutters also make a great addition to the cinema room, helping to create a cosy space with control over light, privacy and glare. When the room isn’t being used for watching films, the shutters can be opened to bring the natural light back in.
These are all full height shutters, which cover the entire window. Some of the shutters had a mid-rail added to line up with the structure of the window frame and provide a split in the louvres, others have a hidden split – meaning the louvres can be operated in 2 halves without a visible divide. The hidden split is perfect for helping to keep privacy in a room whilst allowing light to flood in through the open louvres.
Bi-folding shutters in the kitchen
The kitchen features a large, open plan space where making the most of natural light was particularly important.
Here, we installed bi-folding plantation shutters, which fold neatly back along a track. This allows the shutters to be opened fully when desired, helping to maximise natural light and make a feature of the large doors.
The bi-folding design gives the customer the flexibility to enjoy the benefits of the shutters while still being able to have the doors completely visible with garden views.
Discreet fly screens for doors
The open-plan kitchen and living area opens out onto the garden through a set of large doors, creating a natural connection between the inside and outside spaces.
As part of the final stages of the project, the customer wanted to be able to open these doors and enjoy fresh air while keeping insects out. At the same time, they wanted to maintain the timeless look of their new shutters.
We installed discreet fly screens behind the shutters, providing an effective solution that allows the doors to be opened and fresh air to flow through the space while helping to keep insects outside.
Installing the screens behind the shutters keeps them discreet when they aren’t needed, allowing the shutters to remain the main feature of the room.
The finishing touches
With the main work throughout the home complete, the shutters and fly screens provided some of the final finishing touches, bringing together style and practicality.
From the bi-folding shutters in the kitchen to the cosy cinema room, and the shutters in the office, each solution was selected around the way the family uses their home.
