Bespoke awnings
for patios & gardens
At The Shutter Studio, we specialise in the design and fit of bespoke awnings that match your home perfectly, while providing shade and protection for you and your family from the elements. Designed to help extend your home into your outdoor space, Awnings are a great option to enjoy your garden and patio area throughout the year. Awnings are available in various designs, materials, colours and manual or motorised options – helping you easily choose a solution that works best for your space.
Manual or
motorised awnings
Our made-to-measure awnings for houses are available with either manual or motorised operation, giving you complete flexibility to choose what works best for your home and how you use your outdoor space. Both options provide the same stylish shade and protection, but with different ways of operating depending on your style and how you’d like to use your Awning. Take a look at our two options and discover the key features of each:
Motorised Awnings
- Effortless operation – Extend or retract your awning at the touch of a button – great for when the weather changes suddenly!
- Ideal for larger awnings – A convenient choice where manual operation may be less practical such as in large patio areas.
- Easy to adjust – Quickly control the amount of shade throughout the day.
- Smart home connection – Availability to connect to your smart home systems such as Alexa or Google with the addition of a home hub.

Manual Awnings
- Simple to operate – Easily extend and retract your awning using the manual crank.
- No power required – Manual operation means there’s no need for an electrical connection, making it a straightforward option for homes where wiring may be less convenient.
- Reliable and practical – Simple operation with fewer electrical components to consider.
- Ideal for smaller spaces – for smaller gardens or patios, manual options are often more reliable and easier to retract manually back and forth.

Our team can use these details to prepare a rough quotation and send it directly to you.

Why choose a
bespoke awning?
Unlike some off-the-shelf awnings, a made-to-measure awning is designed around your property, unique space and individual requirements. From the width and projection to the fabric, colour and finish, every detail can be tailored to create the right amount of shade while complementing your property. Off-the-shelf options can sometimes be difficult to get exactly right as they are often standard sizes and projections, which might not work for your space.
This makes a bespoke awning a practical and stylish solution, particularly for spaces with unusual dimensions or specific shading requirements.
Our range of
retractable patio awnings
Patio awnings are a fantastic addition to any outdoor living space. With the right awning, you can create a comfortable and stylish outdoor oasis that you and your family will love spending time in.
Base Plus
This awning can be manually or remotely operated and is neatly concealed within its case when retracted. The built-in inclination system allows you to adjust the pitch to suit your specific needs. LED lighting can also be added to the arms to create an ambient setting when the evenings get dark.
Base Lite
Base Lite has similar features to Base Plus but is more suited for smaller, compact spaces. It fully retracts into its case, which is coated in aluminium – not only does it look great, but it is very durable. It comes in three different arm length projections, allowing you to position your awning in the way that is best suited to you, come rain or shine.
Armony Plus
If you have a large patio area or terrace, then Armony Plus is the perfect match. Its impressive construction can accommodate seven metres in length with a huge 12 metre profile. Armony Plus combines a sleek design with strength and durability due to its multi-bracket fixing system. LED lights can also be added to brighten up your space.
Additional
awning features
Depending on your chosen awning and requirements, we can offer additional accessories and controls to enhance its functionality.
Wind & vibration sensors
Helps to protect your awning by automatically retracting it when strong winds or movement are detected, giving you added peace of mind when you’re not at home.
LED arm lights
Extend your outdoor space into the evening with integrated LED lighting within the awning arms, giving your awning a practical but luxury feel, adding a warm, inviting glow to your patio or seating area.
Additional wall switches
For motorised awnings, additional wall switches can be installed to give you convenient control from more than one location around your home.

Awnings Frequently Asked Questions
Are the awnings waterproof?
Yes! Our awnings are completely waterproof, and also offer protection from the sun and light rain. The fabrics are designed for outdoor use and protected with a CleanGard finish that helps to repel water marks, dirt and grease to keep it looking it’s best for years to come.
How do I clean my awning?
- Clean the frame by wiping it with a damp cloth, soaked in mild detergent. Do not use any coarse scrubbers or clothes, as this may scratch the framework.
- Use a sponge dipped in warm, soapy water to clean the fabric cover.
If you live near the coast, be sure to clean your awning at least every two weeks to protect against saltwater.
Can I keep my awning out all year?
If wind or heavy rain is on the way, it’s best practice to retract your awning to prevent damage. Outside of those conditions, you can leave your awning open, although be sure to clean regularly and remove debris.
Your awning can be fixed to the wall all year round.
How do retractable awnings work?
Retractable awnings extend or retract to protect from the elements. They work by having awning fabric attached to the arms, so the fabric can be extended or retracted to meet your needs.
Some awnings can be operated manually using a crank handle, which retracts the arms of the awning. Motorised awnings are a popular choice, as they can be retracted by remote or wall switch. You may also find some awnings that retract or extend automatically to meet the weather conditions.
How long are awnings guaranteed for?
Our awnings come with a manufacturers 5-year guarantee on parts. Our team can provide full details of what is covered as part of your quotation and installation process.
How long will it take to install my awning?
Depending on the size of the awning and the location, our experts may be able to install it in anywhere from a few hours hours to a full day. The timing can also be dependent on the difficulty of the installation area and any additional requirements. Our team will confirm the expected installation time when arranging your fitting.
Can awnings be fitted to any house?
Not necessarily. The suitability of an awning depends on factors including the structure and condition of the wall, available fixing points, the size and projection required, and the surrounding space. If you’d like to send us an image of your space before we send our team round, we can then assess your property to determine whether an awning can be safely and appropriately installed.
What fabrics and colours are available for awnings?
We offer a wide range of awning fabrics, colours and finishes, giving you plenty of choice when designing an awning for your home. These will be brought along to your home consultation by our surveyor for you to have a good look in person and choose a style that suits your garden best! Our fabrics are made from 100% solution-dyed Sunacryl acrylic and feature a CleanGard finish, helping to repel water marks, dirt and grease while maintaining their appearance. With a variety of colours and patterns available, our team can help you choose a fabric that complements your property.
How much do awnings cost?
The cost of our bespoke awnings is completely dependent on the size, projection and operating system that you choose. As bespoke awnings are made specifically for your garden, they can cost more than off-the-shelf alternatives, but they will be much better tailored to your unique space.
For a free no-obligation quote, we ask if you can complete our contact form, providing details of the space, a photo, and the approximate widths and projection that you’d like the awning. If you’d then like to proceed further based on the rough quote, we will then send our team round for final measurements.
